Best I've used so far July 4, 2010 JJ After going through 3 different low cost card readers from Ritz, I found the Lexar online. I liked the clam shell design feature, which prevents dust from accumulating in the ports when not in use. It has proven to be at least twice as fast as the previous models I've had and after a few months, has has continued to operate flawlessly. One potential sticking point I had did not pertain to the quality of the device, but instead relates to what must be a typo in the instruction manual. It warns against removing the cards when the blue light is on. There is one blue light on the reader that turns on when a card is inserted and blinks as the data is being read and downloaded by the computer. However, The light remains on as long as the card is in the reader. One must simply wait for the light to stop blinking before taking the card out. As far as the next product iteration goes, I would like to see two indicator lights, one that turns green when the card can safely be removed. It would also help to have these lights on the top of the unit. These are minor nits, though. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.
For professional use June 23, 2010 Seth (Indiana) I bought this just to speed things up. It does it! It is one of two top rated readers on professional photography web sites.
One of the main things that brought me to it is the dual card function. CF has been (still is) the standard in most professional cameras. Some have added a second card in SDHC for backup or simultaneous writing.
For a trip I am about to go on, this is excellent. My pro cameras can download and my girl friend's point-and-shoot uses SDHC.
The other little touches that pros can appreciate: They put a slim rubber piece all around the bottom. No more sliding around the table!! Also, it closes like a clam shell. Not a big deal; just another dust free addition.
I don't have the 32GB problem so I cannot address it. Three things keep me in the 2GB-4GB-8GB market.
1. I have to send cards in for edit many times during a shoot. If I filled even a 2GB card, I over shot.
2. I can buy 32GB's worth of 2GB and 4GB for a lot less than one 32GB card.
3. Even when woking for myself, filling 32GB cards could spell disaster!! It is better to have work spread out on multiple cards in case of failure or loss of one.
Just for kicks I tested it with a Sandisk SDHC Ducati--one of the fastest cards out there. It works just fine.
A great professional investment.
Hey - It's only a card reader May 10, 2010 Gary Evans (Lavallette, NJ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted a card reader for the card used in the Canon 7D, I ordered and received this one.
It does exactly what a card reader is supposed to do.
great little reader May 6, 2010 tootsie (Horseshoe Bay) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this because the card reader I had was old and didn't support SDHC cards. I was forced into using the USB cable to download my photos. When I shot in Raw with my new camera, something happened to the images when downloaded thru the camera's usb cable. I couldn't open them, my son had this reader and when I download them with his card reader we could open them. So I bought one too. So far it works great. It is affordable, compact and well worth it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a problem getting their digital pictures off their camera.

Pro's:
* Speed is great (haven't measured accurately), but noticeably fast
* Mini B USB port means I have plenty of additional connectors - and don't have to buy backups
* Built-in case protector is great for keeping most dust/dirt out.
* Non-slip base
* Compact footprint
* High quality - not cheapo plastic
Cons...
* Price a little high maybe?
Good buy.
