Great card reader for the price! July 15, 2010 W. Guan (Alhambra, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Up until now I have been using an old Sony MRW62E, 12 in 1 card reader. It's a great card reader, however its beginning to show its age as it doesn't support SDHC memory cards.
This is where the Sony MRW620 memory card reader comes in. It's a clean looking, internal memory card reader that fits into a 3.5" slot in your computer case. The card reader comes with two colored bezels, matte black and beige. It connects through a 9-pin usb header on your motherboard. 4 mounting screws are provided.
Upon boot up I was able to insert and access up to 4 types of memory at the same time: a 1gb usb flash drive, a 4GB Sandisk compact flash, a 4GB Kingston SDHC, and an old Sony 128mb, purple memory stick. From what I have tested so far, the transfer speeds were very quick. It took just over a minute to transfer 1.19GB's of photos and a couple videos off the SDHC card. I was also able to copy a couple 10 megapixel photos from the SDHC card into my usb flash drive in just 2 seconds, all the while, the 4 devices were still inserted. I have also connected an external 2.5" hard drive with only one usb 2.0 cable and it worked with no problems! The transfer speed was quick.
I have read that some other card readers have problems when multiple cards are inserted or that the usb port for flash drives was finicky. I didn't run into any of these problems. The MRW620 did its job and I was quite surprised. Now I don't have to go look for a camera's data cable or my external card reader anymore.
The cards fit smoothly into the slots unlike some of the lesser priced card readers that I have tried and that's important when you access memory cards often. There is also a green led that turns on only when you have a memory card inserted. When only a usb flash drive is inserted the led does not come on. The led turns off when all memory/devices are removed. This is great in comparison to some of the other card readers that have an led that's always on.
I would highly recommend this memory card reader to those looking for an internal solution.
Its Great .. July 13, 2010 Qais Bougammaz there great having the price in mind, it read all of my cards, its working fine under windows 7 ultimate 64 - bit, fast, stable, icons never pops out until u plug a card in it, and the usb port works fine as well.
Great Internal Card Reader July 12, 2010 G. Erickson (Spokane, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I initially bought a cheap internal card reader to replace a faulty one in my Dell computer. Unfortunately, in the new one some pins for the CF card bent over and the cards just never seemed to go in easily. I decided for a 'good quality' Sony one. I have been very pleased. It installed very easily and there was not software to install using Windows 7. The cards slide in and out easily and are recognized by the operating system right away. This is an excellent product.
Fantastic July 2, 2010 J (Texas, US) This card reader works exactly as advertised. Slim, sleek, and does what it's supposed to do.
I've read in other places that this reader didn't work well with Windows 7 64-bit, but I've had zero problems with it. Installed the drive, booted the computer, and windows found/installed it without any hiccups.
If you're looking for a great card reader at an affordable price, definitely give this one a shot.
Multi card reader June 28, 2010 Anastacio Guerrero (USA) This unit installs in a floppy drive area, if you don't have an extra floppy drive bay, you will need to buy an adapter to fit in the regular drive bays (ex. CD Drive bay). It was easy to install, just make sure you have a usb connections on your mother board or you will also need a adapter card for that too. Windows XP picked it up, did not even tell me it found new hardware, just had it under my computer like it was there from the start.
